fix: resolve CI linting issues across codebase

- Remove unused imports (sys, Path, defaultdict, etc.)
- Convert Optional types to modern | syntax
- Fix trailing whitespace and blank line whitespace issues
- Sort imports alphabetically
- Add __future__ annotations for type syntax support
